Fundings for carers

The Govt gave £400m to PCTs across the country for Carers, from April but it was not ring fenced. The attached questionnaire was sent to 112 PCTs. BE PCT has not responded which is shocking. W B PCT has said it plans a plan in October?? By the time they get round to any implementation most of the year will have gone.

It is unlikely that the funds have been allocated to carers which is what it was intended for. Lots of good reasons why health should focus on carers (saves them loads of money and resources!)

We run Carers Support Service in Slough, with 750 people on our database. In 09/10, we were allocated a one-off payment for MH Carers ‘meaningful respite’. Nothing since. In our experience carers do not ask for foreign holidays, just basic help, buying a wheelchair so they can take the cared one out or the chance to go shopping, have a bath or even eat without fear of leaving the loved one alone.
