Age Concern Slough & Berkshire East is launching a brand new way for its supporters to help raise vital funds – and it won’t cost them a penny. We have registered with online shopping portal www.givingabit.com which donates money every time someone makes a purchase, completely free of charge.

With thousands of retailers funding the service – including John Lewis, Amazon, Selfridges, Boots and Sainsbury’s – Age Concern Slough & Berkshire East’s supporters can now raise funds every time they shop online, whether it’s for life’s essentials, a little treat or something more significant like a holiday or a mobile.

Lois Wheeler, Communications Manager for Age Concern Slough & Berkshire East comments: “We’re delighted to be registered with givingabit.com as every penny raised this way soon adds up. The rise in online shopping is huge and is only set to grow. All we ask is that our supporters remember us while they shop – and they can raise money without spending a penny more.”

In fact, the money donated comes from the retailers themselves, as a thank you for shopping with them. Donations vary and are often anything from 2% of the basket total right up to 10%.

“It’s a great thing to be a part of,” continues Lois Wheeler. “Just by doing a weekly grocery shop online, we can receive £26 a year – imagine if every one of our supporters did just that? The difference to us would be phenomenal.”
