Trustee of Age Concern Slough & Berkshire East and/or Director of Trading Company

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE:

The Board is the executive body of Age Concern Slough & Berkshire East holding responsibility for the good governance of the charity. Trustees/ directors have a shared duty to ensure that the charity has clear direction and purpose, that resources are effectively used, that the charity is well managed, operates within the law, its finances and budget to fulfil its declared objects.

Note: Trustee roles are honorary and unpaid. Please refer to the memorandum & articles for clarification.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure that Age Concern Slough & Berkshire East complies with charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation.
  • Ensure that all regulations relating to the delivery of services including the CQC are complied with by receipt and review of quality monitoring reports.
  • Ensure that Age Concern Slough & Berkshire East pursues its charitable objects as defined in the Memorandum and Articles of Association, and that resources are applied exclusively in
    pursuance of the charity’s objects.
  • Contribute actively to the Board’s role in giving clear strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy.
  • Ensure through the terms of reference granted to the Finance Committee, the charity’s financial stability and continuing solvency and participate in financial decision-making regarding the assets of the charity.
  • Under direction of the Chair, be prepared to take part in the appointment of the Chief Executive, in the appraisal of his/her performance.
  • Ensure Age Concern Slough & Berkshire East is managed effectively and efficiently both in its employment practices and in the area of service delivery.
  • Contribute specific knowledge, skills or experience to help the Board reach sound decisions, by regular attendance at committee and appropriate sub-committees.
  • Participate in reviews of the Board and trustee appraisals to ensure it has relevant composition and skills.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Commitment to Age Concern Slough & Berkshire East and its objects.
  • Safeguard the good name and ethos of the charity and comply with the Code of Conduct and
    all relevant policies relating to good governance.
  • Willingness to contribute constructively to debates and discussions.
  • Attend committee meetings, sub-committees where agreed and the AGM.
  • Honesty, integrity, impartiality and good judgment.
  • Understanding of the client group and their needs

TIME COMMITMENT REQUIRED

  • Board Meetings at intervals of 3 months or as otherwise determined

  • Preparedness to make service visits as part of induction or quality monitoring processes.

Fundraising Officer

Salary: £14.00 per hour (£10,920 per annum)

Hours: 15 hours – Flexible (Monday to Friday)

Age Concern Slough & Berkshire East is the leading charity in East Berkshire advocating for and supporting older people. Following a strategic review we are developing the range and reach of our services by investing in a fundraising role and programme.

You will be experienced, enthusiastic and an effective communicator, to develop and help drive fundraising by accessing local trusts, grants making bodies and corporates. You will also contribute to developing our legacy income.

In return we offer a lively and positive team environment with full support from the management team, a flexible working pattern of 15 hours a week and a generous holiday allowance of 25 days plus Bank Holidays (pro rata) a year.

 Companion Centre Cook / Coordinator - Iver

We are currently looking for a proactive and flexible individual to provide lunch and a welcoming environment for out clients, helping the local community. The successful candidate will have the ability to:

  • Cook a healthy, nutritious lunch for 15+ clients at any one time (experience of this is essential).
  • Create a supportive and homely environment where service users can achieve maximum independence and reduce their loneliness
  • Manage, develop and motivate volunteers
  • Alongside the Centre Services Manager develop the centre, improving existing and devising new services

The day will include shopping,  interacting with clients, basic paperwork and providing a good service in order to attract more people to the clubs. This is an excellent opportunity to do an enjoyable job helping people in the local community. You must be a car driver to apply for this opportunity. An up to date Food Safety Certificate will be an advantage however appropriate training will be provided.

Hours – 5 hours a week (8am – 1pm) 

Days – 1 days a week (Friday)

Rate of pay - £8.21 per hour

Cleaning and Shopping Operative (£8.21 per hour) - Zero hours contract

As a Cleaning / Shopping operative no two days will be the same, as a valued member of the Cleaning / Shopping team you will be on hand to help our clients in their own homes with cleaning, shopping and general support (each appointment is a minimum of 1 hour). Your valuable work will be helping our clients remain independent - without this vital service many individuals would have no choice but to leave the home they love.

You will need to have:-

  • A caring and supportive personality and a wish to help the most vulnerable.
  • A willingness to learn.
  • A driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Home From Hospital Assistant (Various hours available, £8.21 per hour)

Home from Hospital is a service offered by Age Concern Slough and Berkshire East. It involves providing transport for elderly and vulnerable patients (50+) from the hospital to their home. As a Home From Hospital Assistant you will offer support to patients from point of admission to discharge from hospital.

Do you have experience working with older people, are you caring friendly and compassionate?

If you are able to work as part of a small team, as well as being able to work alone using your own initiative, we would love to hear from you.

We have contracted hours available from 9am to 8pm Monday to Sunday so please get in touch to discuss your availability.

We are also looking for zero hours 'bank' staff to cover holidays and sickness.

Use of own car is essential for this post (Petrol expenses will be paid).
